This tragedy should serve as another reason and reminder why we need a national health care plan for all. In Mercedes case, she is out of work and so is her finance (now, care giver). She's lucky to have someone who can devote full time to her. Many people do not. Many would be care givers could not give up their "job" without going on "welfare" benefits. That might sound okay, but remember, in order to receive benefits, you cannot have any savings, property (including your home),or otherwise income. These tragedies are rare, but regardless, the expense should be shared by all and we wouln't even notice the cost, yet we would relieve people of extreme burdens should such a tragedy befall them.
